TODAY'S NEWS: Today's comic was going to be about Kari, but on Friday I was visiting with friends, and one of them asked why Trevor and Ping were digging a hole. At that point, the answer "Because it's funny," was accurate, but didn't really shed any light on what their goal was.* Sometimes I like having Trevor doing things and we never find out WHY. But I thought about this for a while, and decided to elaborate. I don't know if I'll ever run the comic I'd planned, but it was really, really funny.

* As you may know, writers create elaborate supporting information for all facets of their fiction. They'll generate thorough biographies for main, supporting and minor characters, draw up annotated maps, and develop encyclopedic descriptions of the setting's social, geo-political and environmental situations. As a writer, I do all this all the time, of course, except in those RARE circumstances when I just make stuff up as I go along. Ironically, those are the times when someone asks me about the backstory.
