When I'd hand someone a postcard of the webcomic characters, I'd tell them that the webcomic was about an Ex-Vampire-Killer turned Advice Columnist. That alone got quite a few laughs; lots of people got it. There were some people who had already read the comic, too! You can see in the photo I had a laptop set up with a slideshow of the first 59 comics. I also had the "Guess Your Astrological Sign" contest, where if I couldn't guess someone's Sign, they won a free button. Let's just say that when I got one right, we were all amazed. But I gave away lots of buttons!
One of the great things about this event is that only a few of the exhibitors were comic book stores or publishers. Mostly, the people at the tables were the artists who created the work being promoted. So I got to talk with other webcomic artists face-to-face; something I don't get to do very often. I got to meet Aerie (Queen of Wands, Punch and Pie) and talked with David Malki ! (Wondermark) and Chris Yates (Reprographics), both of whom I'd met a year ago. I also saw Paul Guinan and Anina Bennet (Heartbreakers) again, who introduced me to Susan Tardif. An Eldritch Shout Out to every one of these fine folks! Is that enough name dropping for today? I think it is.
